In a world populated by a second race, having the wrong blood can be deadly.
Raised human, Allie lives in a version of Earth populated by seers.
Psychics enslaved by governments, corporations and wealthy humans, seers are an exotic fascination, one Allie knows she'll likely never encounter in person, given how rich you have to be to get near one.
Then members of rival seer factions show up at her work.
Soon Allie finds herself on the run from the law, labeled a terrorist and in the middle of a race war she didn't even know existed.
From USA TODAY and WALL STREET JOURNAL bestselling author, a psychic warfare adventure set in a gritty alternate version of Earth. Contains strong romantic elements. Apocalyptic SciFi. Psychic Romance.
"You are the Bridge..."
When Revik tells Allie she's the Bridge, a mystical being meant to usher in the evolution of humanity--or possibly its extinction--Allie must choose between the race that raised her and the one where she might truly belong.
NOTE An alternate version of this book was previously published as book 1 in the "ALLIE'S WAR" series (this version has been heavily revised/edited prior to re-release).
Standalone novel. No cliffhanger.
THE BRIDGE & SWORD SERIES is a dark, gritty science fiction and apocalyptic series with strong romantic elements, starring Alyson Taylor and her partner, dark and dangerous infiltrator, Dehgoies Revik. For fans of gritty, character-driven science fiction and fantasy worlds, filled with twists and turns and backstabbing betrayals, with heroes and villains who can be equally relatable (and sometimes the same people). The Bridge & Sword books span continents and historical periods as Allie and Revik try to save the human and seer races from destroying one another, and keep their friends and loved ones alive in the process.
The world is dying. Everyone feels it, and yet... no one knows.
They said that when the end was near, a Bridge would come, and lead them out of the darkness of that dying world.
My name is Allie Taylor, and I am that Bridge.

Rook Bridge Sword Awakenings Bridge Sword Series Book 1 eBook JC Andrijeski
This is one of my all-time favorites series. Each book is full-length (more than!) and the author builds a complicated alternate reality/history world, with all of the personal, political, spiritual, societal elements one expects to find in a new world. I adore the characters and the tension between them, the slow-burn romance, and how the characters grow from book to book. If I had one complaint about the series, it would be that it was a struggle to fall into this complex world until about 2/3 of they way through Rook, which is book one. Each subsequent book, however, is like catching up with old friends that I have dearly missed. It's been several years since I read the original Rook, and I believe this re-write does a nice job of simplifying readers' entry into the world. I hope a million more people will now find Allie and Revik rooted in their minds and hearts.
My review of the original Rook still stands:
Read. This. Book. It's Avatar to the 200th degree. Maybe better.
I rarely give 5 star reviews, but JC Andrijeski spins one hell of a stellar story. Why this book isn't sitting on a NY Times bestseller list, I have no idea. I've read The Help. I've read the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo trilogy, I've read the whole agonizing Twilight thing - and I say Rook should be right up there on the big lists in publishing.
It's the kind of book that's hard to put down even for a minute, and hell to have to put down to go do something like, ugh, 8 hours of a day job. I've been preoccupied with this story for days, and finding time to just immerse myself in it is like waking up on the morning of my birthday.
Allie sucked me in on page 1 - and the story just keeps building. The sexual tension between Allie and Revik is... mmmm, something else again. And the bad guys, oooh, they are bad, and there are a lot of them. Some of them even look like friends a while, until the shocking moment of betrayal.

Rook Bridge Sword Awakenings Bridge Sword Series Book 1 eBook JC Andrijeski Reviews
A complex fantasy world where "seer's" hold mind magic. The ability to jump into a humans body and control it, use multiple spare bodies to hold parts of their consciousness, and become that person. Psychic abilities, telekinesis, sorcery like abilities. The need for humans to collar and control them to protect themselves. Into this a woman who was raised human and has no clue she is a seer. The Bridge, a powerful telekinetic, who everyone wants to own and control. This epic book is a mad rush of action, the protector she falls for, the evil that is after her. Quite "cerebral" in its entirety, at times read like a detailed scientific journal. Lengthy and the only caveat I have is, that there was no levity which left the reader exhausted at the end, even though we get a HEA. Definitely need a palate cleanser book before I start the next one.
I have read the previous version of this series (Allie's War) through book 9 and I loved it SO much there was no question I would re-buy this new revised version! It's truly that good! I am slightly biased though because I know what's going to happen in books to come, so my review is kinda for all of them (I will just go put 5 stars on all the next ones.) ;) JC Andrijeski has this amazing ability to suck you right into the story and make you feel, see, smell, and live everything these characters are going through - you truly get lost in these books. I totally forgot how emotional this roller coaster is but do it, you will not be sorry, trust me!
After a few pages of background showing us Allie Taylor’s rather ordinary life, the story takes off like a high-speed chase, and like Allie, we are plunged into a very frightening and intriguing world, and like her, we get no time to take a breath. This is a nuanced, sexy, sometimes bloody tale that will keep you reading frantically till the final scene. Andrijeski has created a complex layered society in which seers (people with extraordinary mind powers) are both a controlled race in human society, and an underworld that lives beneath notice of humans, who look upon humans as clueless pawns. Allie is ripped from her life and family, and worries that a conflict between two groups of seers could endanger her parents, her best friend Cassie, and her step-brother Jon. She has reason to worry.
As we rush to keep up with Allie and her protector/captor, Revik, we learn bits and pieces about the seers who, it is rumored, are highly sexed, have a complex social structure and language that is alien to humans, and possess unimaginable powers of mind. She discovers she has a few powers of her own, for she is something special to the seers. In the meantime she can’t decide if Revik is one of the good guys, or a demon about to hurl her into perdition.
We are in good hands with Andrijeski, who is a master storyteller and a master or language. Somehow without seeming to, the story reflects on events on the global scene today, and she delivers a few surprises along the way. The images are so vivid, I kept picturing how all this would look on the big screen. Maybe one day - I hope! I’ll be the first in line at the theater. This is my first fantasy/cyberpunk experience, and I intend to follow the series to the end.
