great read!
This book took me by surprise, as I did not expect to learn so much about what was an institution in the United States.
It kept my attention from the beginning to the end.
This was the backbone of my daughters report on the pony express. Lots of great information. Most people have no clue how important the Pony Express was. The stories of some of the riders were pretty amazing.
I downloaded this on a whim. I don't remember why. --- It's an amazing tale. The information within this book is a study of a cornerstone upon which the social values of the USA was constructed. --- Wonderfully researched and written, makes fine reading. Five stars.
I breezed through this history, and found it amazing the feats that they were able to achieve in such a short time to create the Pony Express. Great for business owners looking at how to start a company right, and history buffs who find this really interesting.
The story is not a text book account, but a good collection of stories about the Pony Express. It covers both the statistics of the riders (what impresses me, and most people) along with the reasons for trying to strart the overland mail system at the onset fo the Civil War.
I absolutely adore anything to do with horses, and thought that this book would hold my interest from the first page. It was though a disappointment, as all it is, is facts. How long it took from one place to another, no interesting stories about the riders or their horses. One of my favourite films of all time is Hidalgo, and apparently he was a pony express rider (not a figment of a film makers imagination), so it would have been much more interesting,had Mr Bradley written it with more information of the riders, the horses, the stage personnel etc, than just page after page of facts, figures and times.
Detailed and well organized.
Never boring.
Definitely a good read.
